There are two basic steps to getting your site online and registering/reserving a domain name is the first.
A domain name makes up the address of your site and can end in .com, .net, .org, .info, .us, .biz, .tv and more. Throughout this site you will also see the domain name referred to as the "dot com name".
Once you have registered your name, you will select a web host (2nd step). The web host is the guts of any website because this is where you create and publish your pages, build order forms, add functionality and maintain your site.
First, let's focus on selecting the best domain name for your site...

In mathematics, more specifically ring theory, an atomic domain is an integral domain, every non-zero non-unit of which, is a finite product of irreducible elements. Atomic domains are different from unique factorization domains, because this finite decomposition of an element into irreducibles need not be unique; equivalently, not every irreducible element is a prime. Important examples of atomic domains include the class of all unique factorization domains, and all Noetherian domains. In particular, any integral domain satisfying the ascending chain condition on principal ideals (i.e. the ACCP), is a atomic domain. Despite the claim that appears in Cohn's famous paper, the converse is known to be false.
One-click hosting

One-click hosting generally describes web services that allow internet users to easily upload one or more files from their hard drives (or from a remote location) onto the one-click host's server free of charge.
Most such services simply return a URL which can be given to other people, who can then fetch the file later on. As of 2005 these sites have drastically increased in popularity, and subsequently, many of the smaller, less efficient sites have failed. Many internet forums exist in order to share such links; this type of file sharing has, to a degree, taken over from P2P filesharing services[2].
The sites make money through advertising or charging for premium services such as increased downloading capacity, removing any wait restrictions the site may have or prolonging how long uploaded files remain on the site. Some sites implement a CAPTCHA to prevent automated downloading.

A web hosting service is a type of Internet hosting service that allows individuals and organizations to make their own website accessible via the World Wide Web. Web hosts are companies that provide space on a server they own or lease for use by their clients as well as providing Internet connectivity, typically in a data center. Web hosts can also provide data center space and connectivity to the Internet for servers they do not own to be located in their data center, called colocation.
self hosting

The term self-hosting was coined to refer to the use of a computer program as part of the toolchain or operating system that produces new versions of that same program—for example, a compiler that can compile its own source code. Self-hosting software is commonplace on personal computers and larger systems. Other programs that are typically self-hosting include kernels, assemblers, shells and revision control software.
If a system is so new that no software has been written for it, then software is developed on another self-hosting system and placed on a storage device that the new system can read. Development continues this way until the new system can reliably host its own development. Development of the Linux operating system, for example, was initially hosted on a Minix system. Writing new software development tools "from the metal" (that is, without using another host system) is rare and in many cases impossible.

Buying a domain name should be one of your easiest tasks!
Most large companies have their own; most radio and television stations have one...heck, your grandmother may even have her own these days. Of course we're talking about domain names. internet.com, WebDeveloper.com, ServerWatch.com all give you a good idea of what you'll find if you go to their Web sites.
Good domain names do that--they give the public an idea of what they will find at your site, and if they are the same as your company's name or brand, they make it easier to find your Web site on the Internet.
A lot of people are under the misconception that they must purchase a domain through their ISP or content provider. While the service that these companies provide make it simpler for individuals and companies to purchase domains, you can do it yourself without any help (or fees) for the service. We're going to give you some tips, and show you some interesting facts that you may not be aware of, even if you're a regular domain dominator.
